James E. Ross

Jim is an Executive Vice President of State Street Global Advisors and is Chairman of the Global SPDR business. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of SSGA Funds Management, Inc., State Street’s Registered Investment Advisor, and as Chairman of the Investment Company Institute’s Exchange Traded Funds Committee. In addition, he is responsible for State Street’s Global Funds Management and is a member of both the firm’s Global Product Committee and Executive Management Group.

Jim leads State Street’s engagement with ETF stakeholders including regulators, mutual fund and ETF Boards of Directors, industry associations, key clients, partners and the media. Responsible for State Street’s positioning on important issues related to ETFs as well as for advancing the firm’s long-term ETF strategy and innovation, he is frequently quoted in the media as a result of his knowledge of ETFs.

Jim’s extensive history with exchange traded funds started back in 1993 when he was part of the State Street team that brought the first-ever ETF—SPDR S&P 500® [SPY]—to market. The launch of SPY sparked a revolution that has paved the way for the hundreds of ETFs that followed.

As part of his efforts to contribute back to the community, Jim serves as a volunteer board member of the Alzheimer Association of MA/NH.

Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Bentley College. He also holds the FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.
